Working out regularly and not seeing results is extremely frustrating. Putting in the work and seeing little to no change can also be quite discouraging. If you find yourself having this problem, a few changes are in order. Everyone plateaus at one point or another but knowing how to address the problem is what counts. There can be several reasons why you are not seeing results. In order to surpass a plateau you have to identify the culprit and start making those gains!

Poor Eating Habits

A healthy diet is the foundation of a great physique. Results begin in the kitchen. Whether you want to gain muscle, lose weight or have your sights set on both, nutrition is key. Meals should not only be nutritious and supply those all-important macronutrients (protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fat) but calorie count is also important. Both eating too much and not eating enough can hinder results. You need fuel to progress.

You Have Fallen Into a Routine

If you are performing the same workout day after day, results will remain at a standstill. The body, especially the muscles, adjust to a workout in about two weeks. After that time the body is not being challenged as much as it should. Muscle confusion is the key to unlocking progress. More muscle fibers are recruited when new exercises are introduced. You want to switch things up on a regular basis to prevent the body from adapting. There is the option of changing your routine entirely or gradually increasing the intensity of your existing workout plan.

You Don’t Go In With a Plan

Deciding to exercise means you are off to a great start but going in without a plan will not do you much good. Every effective workout plan involves cardio as well as strength/resistance training. In addition to that, major muscle groups must be targeted on different days to allow enough time for other areas to rest and recover. Wandering aimlessly in the gym and exercising without any direction will not get you much closer to your ideal physique. You have to exercise with a purpose.

Once you identify the reason(s) why you are not seeing results, make the necessary changes and watch your body transform. The essential components to a successful fitness plan include a nutritious diet, variation and actually having a plan in place. As soon as those are covered, gains will follow.
